ABOUT YOUTHEATRE

We believe story and storytelling help people understand who they are, process where they come from, and will help shape their identity for generations to come.

As a Theatre Outreach Ensemble, Youtheatre Movement is passionate about storytelling. Through our creative projects and partnering with public and private sponsors, we work closely with builders and supporters of the community. By being relevant with today’s topical issues we can relate to the marginalized people of our society, and inform others in order to create empathy through the use of Story. We excel at Live Productions and Apprenticeship Training and believe “Identity is seen through Story”.

OUR VISION

Investing in the future of our story through a culture of honour, trust, and respect

Together we ignite the imagination, inspire hope, and compel listeners to do the same. Through relationship and artistic expression YOUTHEATRE is a community for those who wish to share life whole heartedly, transparently, encouraging everyone to uncover the truth about who they are, and to live out their true story.

OUR HISTORY

young diverse people gathering in studio and listening to speaker

Where it all began . . .

We piled into the bus and set out for an eight hour bus ride from Vancouver to Prince George, British Columbia.

All twenty four of us were embarking upon a tour of a play called Just Outside of Hope to the public and private schools in Prince George, Fort St James, and Vanderhoof, BC. With 10 shows in 6 days we had no idea of what to expect. But, what happened changed our lives forever.

The story we brought was about human abduction, abuse, and how we cannot lose hope in the face of tragedy.

Our troupe soon realized that we were touring a story that brought catharsis, we were making a difference in the lives of people who soon became friends.

A month after this trip, we travelled again further north to a small Indigenous community where we facilitated Story Workshops. It had become evident there was an identity crisis running rampant, and not only in this isolated location, but all over the province, across Canada, throughout North America. Not just within Indigenous peoples, but in humanity.

In our travels, story helps people process difficult issues, we draw on the strengths of story as a lens in which to view a road we can travel together.

In short, Youtheatre is bringing community to a hurting world.
