Is Theatre Dangerous?
The Theatre is not a building, nor is it a place with a stage and seating called a “theatre”.
It is an experience. It is a magical environment created by a company of people, called the ensemble, who come together and create a world where spectators can be swept away for an hour or two, and allow themselves to think freely, imagine freely, and let the metaphysical permeate, and do its job.
Going to the theatre should elicit a little trepidation, no? At least that used to be the point.
On the one hand you know you won’t die, but you know something is about to take place, a transaction of sorts, and although you may be confronted, even conflicted of what you think and feel about reality, hopefully in the end we will all come away better for it.
